It's a major award!, part 2

We opened gifts here Christmas Eve with my folks so that we could fit in Les's folks on Christmas and then get Erin, Jon and Gloria over to their father's to have yet another round of opening that night. The kids didn't get many gifts from us this year because their main gift was the Wii I won, and we figured once it got opened everything else would be ignored, anyway. Mom and Dad got them Wii Play with an extra controller, which was good because the controller that came with the Wii didn't work (and since it was a prize I couldn't return it). So Christmas was saved. Then Les's brother Matt and his wife Brenda got them Guitar Hero 3, so I'd say they're set until the twins' birthday in March.

Video games make kids slackjawed before they even have the box open.

Update: We found out the remote did work after getting another one today and learning that they actually have to be synchronized to the console. Doh! We in computers call that RTFM.

Very cool! My major award this year was a 12" sub and a 2 liter bottle of Pepsi.

Heidi,

This is the second "big" award I've ever won. in 1999 or so I won an $800 mountain climbing GoreTex shell and overalls, which for the type of puttering I did in the mountains then (and hope to start doing again in 2009) was WAY overkill. I didn't turn it down, though!

And hey, I like sub sandwiches! :o)

Don't feel too bad. My two genius gaming console geeks (one of which even set up an all in one printer/fax/scanner all by himself two weeks ago) couldn't get electronic battleship to work yesterday. Dad had to intervene.

We got a Wii Fit for Christmas and I would highly recommend it if/when you are thinking of a major accessory for the Wii. I haven't got to play with it too much yet, but I'm looking forward to it. (And I heart it because it told me I'm 6 years younger than I really am!)

Erin,

A Wii Fit could be good for most of us in this household!

I have a funny story about that, though. A young coworker of mine just got married about a month or so ago. His newlywed wife kept talking about a Wii Fit but he didn't think she was serious, and besides didn't want to fall into the trap of getting her one and then hearing, "Oh, so you think I need to get in shape, eh?" Anyway, a few days before Christmas they were talking about what each other wanted and she said, "Well, I've been dropping you hints about a Wii Fit for WEEKS now!" So then the day before Christmas Eve he was in a panic trying to find one, and there didn't appear to be any within a 50 mile radius (at least). Ah, young love. :o)
