Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme
Well, besides the first lawn mowing of the season I worked in my "garden" today (a series of raised planting beds, really). I planted eight lavender plants around the mailbox, six Cayenne chili plants, six JalapeƱo chili plants, three Roma tomato plants, Italian parsley, cilantro (coriander), thyme, dill and sweet basil. Most of the perennial herbs I planted last year are coming back, some with a vengeance, with the two rosemary plants being the only ones that are suspect. Missouri is a bit too far north for them and we had a couple of ice storms and really cold stretches and right now they only have a few sickly looking needles. So we'll see. I hope they do make it - everyone in this house loves rosemary. If not, I may plant some in large pots and simply move them indoors this next winter. I am also still looking out for some Habanero chili plants.
The herb garden now contains lavender, oregano, sage, marjoram, chives, dill, basil, thyme, cilantro, Italian parsley, spearmint, peppermint and rosemary (we hope). So I guess now I will be able to make Simon & Garfunkel Chicken. :o) I harvested a bunch of chives, marjoram and mint today because they're already going strong. I love having fresh herbs available. They're really what got me into gardening last year and now I want to do more. I am already thinking of two places in the back yard that have concrete slabs surrounding what used to be horseshoe pits that would be the perfect bases for two more raised beds. Now I just have to figure out what I'd grow in them.

First mow of the season? Wow. I did my second today -- the first was two weeks ago.
I guess that's about right, though. You guys are roughly 200 miles north of us, so I guess the warmer air from the south takes a little longer to infiltrate your region.
CH,
Don't underestimate the amount of time I'm willing to let the yard go before I "hay", either. :o)
The better half has tried in vain to grow stuff in our neck of the woods, but our yard really is in horrible shape to grow anything. I know what I need to do is build her some raised 3x3 square garden thing-a-ma-jigs like I plan to, just haven't yet...
We haven't mowed yet. But then again we have more moss than grass. At this time. But possibly forever. I almost want to say I hate trees...
Chris,
I hear you on the moss. We have a bunch in the front yard on the north side of the house and under the oak tree in the front yard. It's a magnificent tree, but oak leaves are pretty much toxic to any plant (including grass) they touch, so between that and the constant shade, the moss has a field day.
I think raised beds are definitely the way to go. You get to control the soil content exactly, and you don't have to bend over as far to tend them.
